Question: I’ve tried every treatment and therapy there is. I try to maintain a positive outlook and focus on relief by meditating, stretching, and low impact exercise. Why am I still in pain?
You may think that you have tried everything but I bet there is something you have tried yet: doing nothing!
The problem could be that you’re trying too hard.
The more you do to get pain relief, the more you tell your unconscious that there is a problem.
If I were you, I’d drop all physical therapy, meditation, stretching, or any other pain management method.
You said you only do “low impact exercise” but that hasn’t worked.
Why not try something more extreme?
Maybe you’re someone who thirsts for adventure, extreme sports.
Perhaps you’re in pain because you’re not doing what you love.
The problem could be your conditioning:
- I shouldn’t sleep on my back.
- I shouldn’t sit in an easy chair.
- I shouldn’t take risks.
And it’s a trap because you’ve been in pain for so long. It’s not your fault.
I’ve been there too.
Why don’t you “surprise” your pain a little bit?
Be more playful. Ride your motorbike this weekend.
Or do nothing—no exercises, no pain management.
Take a break from healing. See what happens.
Pretend you’ve healed.
You said that you try to maintain a positive outlook. That’s all you need and that shows how strong you are.
And the more chronic your pain is, the greater the chance is that this is a “learned” pain rather than an injury-induced pain.
You’ve been looking for a key to unlock the chain but all you need is to listen to the voice, “Just walk and break the chain!”.
With love, Angelos
