How to Get Rid of Chronic Pain

This is an introductory guide for high achievers, successful professionals, and executive leaders on how to overcome chronic pain, anxiety and other physical symptoms.

Creating this guide has been extremely difficult and I’ve been resisting it for a long time.

My role is to ask questions and listen.

The answers are in my clients’ words and often behind the words.

The roots of chronic pain can be repressed emotions, unconscious beliefs, and childhood trauma.

You can’t see all these things right now because they live in your unconscious mind.

You have to take every step on the journey to see and understand what creates the discomfort.

Your Stress Management Routine Makes you Stressed

Your stress management routine makes you MORE stressed!

And you’re getting stressed out because you’re stressed out.

Don’t you worry more when…

  • you don’t have time for meditation or a walk?
  • you can’t eat what you “should” eat?
  • you can’t go to the gym during lockdown?
  • you can’t see your osteopath or therapist tonight because of another important meeting?

What if you didn’t have to manage your stress?

What if you didn’t have to meditate, do yoga, have massage, eat your 5 a day, journal, practice mindfulness, gratitude, and all the other stuff you have to do?

What if you could wash away negative feelings without having to do anything?

This is what you’ll learn in the Unshakeable Bankers Club.

My One Coaching Secret

I have one coaching secret.

It took me years to develop and apply to myself and my clients.

I help my clients change because I can fall in love with the expression of the self that they’re fighting.

This is not a technique—this is a practice, a learned behaviour, a state of being that my clients can sense.

I see all the beauty of the world in what my client sees as destructive.

And when this happens, they begin to fall in love with it too.

This is where the transformation starts to happen.

And they see, and they let go and forgive.

And they help me forgive my own “destructive” yet innocent expressions of self.

Quit Investment Banking or Not?

Stay in banking or quit banking?

Prison or freedom?

Career or family?

Disquiet or peace?

Not being me or being me?

The problem is NOT finding the right answers to these questions.

The problem is that you’re constantly asking these questions.

You are at war with yourself.

To be more precise, one expression of yourself is fighting another expression of yourself.

Because, by proof of contradiction, if you’re asking these questions it means that you have two selves.

The banking self and the non-banking self.

Otherwise, choosing between the two wouldn’t be a constant struggle, would it?

It’s not about being you or not being you—you are both banking and not banking!

To be more precise, the question is not [Banking VS Not Banking].

The question is [What your Banking Self wants VS What your Non-Banking Self wants].

You’re struggling because you haven’t transformed the problem to a different space where you can see the intersection of the two selves more clearly.

But you must give voice and honour both selves.

A Neurolinguistic Programming exercise that integrates both selves.

This is the exercise I often do with my clients.

  1. Sit comfortably in your chair and embody your investment banking self. What does your IB self really want? Let him/her speak to the non-IB self. Once you’re done, shake that self out, stretch, move around, and take a couple of deep breaths.
  2. Move your chair to a different place and embody your non-IB self. What does your non-IB self really want? Let him/her speak to the IB self. Once you’re done shake that self out again.
  3. Go into what I call a meta position, ie. an observer position. Is there something that both selves agree on? What do both want for you? Explore both selves from that neutral and unattached position.
  4. What is an agreement that would make both selves happy?
  5. Continue the conversation between the two selves until an agreement is reached.

In the end, you’ll find that…

You may quit banking and feel fulfilled.

Life has so much to offer.

Having made it in investment banking shows that you have all it takes to have success in any other profession.

You are a go-getter. You don’t lack motivation. You are goal-oriented.

You can build your own business, you can break into a totally different industry.

God, you can do ANYTHING. If not you, who???

You may stay in banking and still feel fulfilled.

Maybe all you need is:

  • a change in your lifestyle
  • more time for recreation
  • a relationship
  • the ability to set boundaries and say no
  • to build a new skill
  • to become a more effective communicator
  • more empowering beliefs
  • a new role
  • a new team
  • a mentor
  • to have a conversation with your boss

In any case, the deepest and most enlightening insights will emerge once you’ve embraced both your IB and the non-IB self and invited them to a conversation with curiosity and wonder.

The Guilt of Not Spending Enough Time with Family

“I should spend more time with my family”, you say.

You often feel guilty because you spend too much time at work.

But there is something you’re not seeing.

There are legitimate reasons for this.

Reasons that live in your unconscious mind.

Have you wondered what drives this behaviour?

Can you sit with that part of yourself for a few moments?

What does it really want?

What is its purpose?

Honour that part of yourself. Talk to it. Listen to it.

It has good intentions, doesn’t it?

If you feel guilty, that’s okay.

Sit with the guilt. There is precious information there—unique opportunities to establish a rapport with your unconscious.

Yes, I often feel guilty too, my friend.

But I don’t suffer any more.

I have become one with every part of myself.

No part is repressed any more.

This is what we practice in the Unshakeable Bankers Club.

Anxious, Perfectionist and Ambitious?

Obsessed with self-development?

No success is enough?

I’m like you.

There is nothing wrong with you and me.

Our nature makes us perpetually dissatisfied with our present condition.

You want to improve the most important thing in your life: YOU.

Your neurochemical composition makes you strive for perfection.

What can get in the way is when you think this is a problem—and when you listen to others who think this is a problem.

I repeat: There is nothing wrong with you and me.

Stop Asking “Why am I Stressed?”

You’d never say to a rocket …

“Why are you so noisy?”

So… why do you say to yourself…

“Why do you get stressed?”

Stress is NOT the problem.

The problem is that you are asking these questions…

The real problem is… the fear, denial or shame of stress.

Office Politics Can’t Break a Diamond

If you are conscientious, moral, and ethically sound but still afraid of your reputation being damaged…

Remember this:

A diamond is a diamond.

You can’t break a diamond.

You are a diamond.

They may throw a diamond in the mud but, come the rain, the rain will wash the mud away and the diamond will shine again.

Avoiding this is not always in your power.

And you can forgive yourself for appearing powerless here.

And you can forgive the other person for feeling intimidated by your lustre.

In the long term, a diamond will always get the setting it deserves.

If you Have a Knife in your Leg, Don’t Meditate.

If you have a KNIFE in your leg…

Meditation, breathing, or a gluten-free diet may relieve your pain.

BUT…

You might also want to pull the knife out of your leg and throw it away.

That would make a real difference and then you’d be able to enjoy any bread in Borough Market.

When I say KNIFE I mean:

  • back pain
  • neck pain
  • sciatica
  • pelvic pain
  • migraines
  • heartburn
  • IBS
  • fatigue

Or any other persistent physical symptoms that are stopping you from living the life you want to live.

And when I say PULLING THE KNIFE OUT I mean addressing repressed emotions and toxic limiting beliefs.

Do you “Talk Up” to Your Boss?

Do you “talk up to your boss?”

“You’re great! Good job! I’m stoked about this!”

If you mean these words, that’s OK.

If you don’t …

There are better options.

You can:

  • Get a job that pays you double.
  • Have a boss that you truly look up to.
  • Stick to your values.
  • Live without pain and other weird physical symptoms.

Yes, the grass is greener on the other side!

You may not be able to see it from where you are.

You’re thinking about your mortgage, family, children, private schools, insurance, lifestyle…

I know it’s not easy but I’m sure your family will appreciate it when you earn more, talk honestly about your fantastic boss at home, and also live pain-free.
